Neil - A life in Canada and Australia by Don Charlwood
Neil (Cornelius) East was born in Canada in 1878 and died in Australia in 1975. In those 96 years, he built his first house as a 16 year old, worked a gold mine in Western Australia, explored Western Australia's Great Victoria Desert by camel, pioneered in Canada's Alberta prairies, married an Australian, crossed the Pacific numerous times by ship and plane, searched for gold in the jungle in what is now Suriname, built another house at age 75, was a pacifist, read widely in economics and politics - and was a remarkable father, father-in-law and grandfather.
Neil's son-in-law, Australian author Don Charlwood, first wrote about his father-in-law in 1975. He later expanded his work and it was made available to friends and family. Now, two of Neil's granddaughters have turned this family story into a book so their redoubtable Grandad's story can be more widely shared.
